Everywhere

Old friend, I see you everywhere.

For 40 minutes, I rode the bus opposite you today

Yesterday, you and I crossed the street at the same time from opposite lights.

I willed my arm to be like lead and not float up then descend into a friendly wave.

Sometimes, I don’t notice you until you laugh

Or tilt your head and jut out your chin and smirk.

I switch on the tv and find you debating someone with your fiery loquacious wordplay.

Most heartbreaking are the times when I look in the mirror and encounter your eyes shining back at me

How foolish of me for not telling you how much I see you before you left.
